Danish Modern Jens Quistgaard for Dansk 15 Teak Ice Bucket. This vintage Danish modern teak ice bucket was designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk circa 1950. This earlier model was made in Denmark see pix of bottom. Circa mid-1950's original Modern Jens Quistgaard Dansk Teak Ice Bucket in excellent condition. The body and lid are made of Congo teak with a orange plastic liner.
Vintage Dansk "Congo" Teak ice bucket with orange liner by Jens Quistgaard -This fabulous mid-century wood ice bucket was designed in 1961 by well known Danish designer, Jens Harald Quistgaard. Born in 1919 and trained as a sculptor, Quistgaard was discovered in 1954 by American entrepreneur Ted Nierenberg.
Nierenberg brought Quistgaard back to America with him and went into partnership, forming the highly successful company, Dansk International Designs Ltd. Quistgaard was named chief designer, a position he held for 30 years. During his time with Dansk, he received several awards and was quite prolific, designing more than 4000 products for the company. Quistgaard passed away in Denmark in 2008.One of Quistgaard's most famous pieces was the'Congo' ice bucket. Reportedly inspired by the construction of Viking Longships, the Congo ice bucket was a tremendous success and went on to become an iconic symbol of mid-century design. By 1966, the piece had been added to the permanent collections of 23 art museums around the world, including The Louvre, New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and London's Victoria and Albert Museum.
